Job Profile

 

The Traffic Signals Design Engineer works under the general direction of the Traffic Signals Engineer and will:

·         Oversee the design of Traffic Signals underground plant and above ground equipment.

·         Oversee the procurement process and inventory management of Traffic Signals materials.

·         Oversee the City’s compliance of at grade rail crossing regulations and standards in accordance with the Transportation Association of Canada.

·         Assist in the development of the signals Annual and Long Term Capital and Maintenance Program.

·         Supervise staff.

 

As the Traffic Signals Design Engineer you will:

·         Oversee and administer the design process for Traffic Signals underground plant and above ground equipment.

·         Oversee the procurement process and inventory management of Traffic Signals materials.

·         Responsible for the City’s compliance of at grade rail crossing regulations and standards in accordance with the Transportation Association of Canada.

·         Responsible for Staff assignments and development.

·         Participate in the Annual and Long Term Capital Program review and planning of the Traffic Signals Branch.

 

Your education and qualifications include:

·         Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering

·         Approximately 2 years’ experience post Professional Engineer Designation, performing municipal engineering duties.

·         Experience applying: geometric and/or transportation facility designs; current construction/maintenance practices; and technical standards.

·         Experience supervising and managing technical support staff in order to successfully complete design projects on time.

·         Experience working with the tendering process, including material procurement and bid evaluation/awards, and knowledge of technical language within contractual agreements.

·         Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to establish/maintain effective working relationships with engineering consultants, contractors, fellow City workers, City departments, Councillors, Administrators and Engineers of federal departments, and the media.

·         Strong presentation skills with the ability to prepare and present comprehensive engineering reports/recommendations in a clear and concise manner based on sound engineering judgement.

·         Ability to work well under stressful and changing conditions.

·         General understanding and ability to apply standards, specifications, codes, legislation, and environmental requirements, applicable to municipal public works.

·         Ability to effectively use a personal computer as well as spreadsheet and data base software.

·         Knowledge of rail crossing regulations and standards is desired.

·         Knowledge of material procurement, sourcing, and execution of various types of purchase agreements is considered an asset.

 

Conditions of employment:

·         Registered as a Professional Engineer with The Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of the Province of Manitoba (APEGM)

·         Must possess and maintain a valid Class 5 Manitoba Driver’s Licence.

·         Required to provide a vehicle for transportation while on City business subject to the terms and conditions of the City of Winnipeg Transportation Policy.

The salary range for this position is $2,838.43 – $3,812.58 bi-weekly.
