Website City of Vaughan

Manager, Mobility Management/MoveSmart

The City of Vaughan is a vibrant and prosperous community and one of Canada’s fastest-growing cities. Home to nearly 335,000 people, its globally competitive economy includes more than 19,000 businesses, employing approximately 227,000 individuals. Vaughan traces its roots back to the historic communities of Concord, Kleinburg, Maple, Thornhill, and Woodbridge. Sophisticated transportation networks, innovative infrastructure, competitive business costs, skilled and diverse workforce, and great quality of life make it the ideal location for business growth and prosperity.

The City of Vaughan continues to see substantial growth. By the year 2031, the population is projected to increase by 36 per cent from that of 2016, while jobs are expected to grow by 18 per cent in the same period. With such high population and employment growth, the number of daily trips made by Vaughan residents and businesses, and external trips made in and out of Vaughan, are expected to continue to increase over and above the rapid increases experienced in the last 25 years. This expansion creates many operational challenges on the City’s roads, including increasing congestion and potentially more conflicts between vehicles, cyclists, and pedestrians across over 2,200 km of road network. Despite these challenges, a high level of safety is expected from Vaughan’s citizens. In response to this expectation, the City has developed a Mobility Management Strategy.

As the face and champion of the program internally and externally, the Manager, Mobility Management/MoveSmart is responsible for managing the planning, development and implementation of the MoveSmart Mobility Management strategy and leading a team of professionals in the achievement of well defined program objectives. Additionally, this individual will provide leadership, technical expertise, and project management skills. They will oversee the development and implementation of transportation technologies, contracts, strategies, policies and procedures related to traffic engineering, traffic operations, road safety and active and sustainable transportation.   This newly created role reports to the Director, Transportation and Fleet Management Services.

The ideal candidate is a visible advocate of Road Safety with the skills to present to senior leadership and council. You bring knowledge of traffic engineering and safety principles, concepts, approval processes, and legislation related to traffic engineering and regulatory control. Accompanied by a University degree in Transportation or Civil Engineering, you bring experience with the planning, development, and application of Integrated Intelligent Transportation Systems and Advanced Traveler Information Systems (ATIS) or Advanced Traffic Management Systems (ATMS) or Advanced Public Transport Systems (APTS). A Professional Engineer (P.Eng.), in good standing with the Professional Engineers Ontario, is strongly preferred.

The City of Vaughan is an equal opportunity employer. In accordance with the Accessible Canada Act, 2019 and all applicable provincial accessibility standards, upon request, accommodation will be provided by both Odgers Berndtson and the City of Vaughan throughout the recruitment, selection and/or assessment process to applicants with disabilities.
