We have a unique opportunity on our Engineering and Public Works team for a team-oriented and collaborative individual.  The Traffic Engineer Project Manager will report to the Transportation Infrastructure Manager and will be a lead supporter of ongoing and emerging initiatives on the Transportation team, particularly in relation to projects arising from transportation reviews as a result of land development as well as in relation to major transportation planning projects.

In this role you will work alongside the Manager of Transportation, Transportation Infrastructure Manager, the Transportation Planning Manager, as well as a team of Traffic Engineers, Specialists and Technologists.  This opportunity will allow you to work alongside a group of dedicated individuals who are passionate about implementing superior transportation and traffic programs across the City of Coquitlam!

As the Traffic Engineer Project Manager, you can look forward to leading and supporting local infrastructure projects that allow people and goods to move more efficiently through the City.  This work will involve investigating, analyzing and preparing studies, reports and recommendations often for presentation to Council Committees or other authorities.  At times, you can look forward to making presentations to your colleagues or senior leadership, and thus excellent verbal and written communication skills are critical to this role.  To successfully complete this work, a strong technical background in engineering design and specifications will be required.  You can look forward to bringing forward innovative ideas around current program activities such as transportation reviews of land development applications, rail crossings, streetscape design guidelines and other initiatives to support our residents and local community.  In addition to project and policy work, the successful applicant will provide support with incoming transportation division service requests, field investigations as well as communications with members of the public.  This team is a collaborative group of individuals that welcomes a new colleague who is focused on continuous improvement, taking initiative and exploring new best practices!

Requirements for the Traffic Engineer Project Manager position include a background in transportation planning and traffic engineering with a strong understanding of relevant civil engineering design for roadways, drainage, grading, water and sewer and land development projects, preferably within a municipal environment.  In addition to holding a Bachelor’s degree in Science or Engineering, and a proven track record of success in applying industry best practices, the successful candidate will have a minimum of 3 years of direct transportation planning experience and will be a registered Professional Engineer in the Province of British Columbia.  Experience working in the public sector environment will be considered an asset.
