We have an immediate opening for a Transportation Engineer to join CIMA+ for our Transportation Planning team in Calgary.

Primary Responsibilities 

  • In collaboration with CIMA+’s senior planning team, provide traffic engineering support for transportation planning studies from project inception through to development and evaluation of alternatives, and refinement of recommendations.
  • This role will initially focus on transportation engineering and traffic operations for rural highways, ultimately leading to a wide range of both urban and rural transportation planning assignments and responsibilities for both private and public sector clients, including:
    •  Traffic forecasting, collision analysis, benefit-cost evaluations, needs assessments, road network and corridor reviews, transportation impact assessments, stakeholder engagement, road safety audits and reporting.
    • Project management, including project planning, budgeting, tracking, invoicing, relationship development, and task effort monitoring.
  • Working independently in a fast-paced and multi-disciplinary team environment.
  • With senior support, meet project timelines and budgets.
  • Additional duties may include assisting with proposal preparation.


  • A university degree in Civil Engineering, combined with a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.
  • Currently registered as an Engineer in Training or licensed member of the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA), or eligible for registration through Inter-Provincial Mobility Application with APEGA.
  • Solid knowledge in the areas of traffic operations, data collection, traffic analysis, and/or road safety.
  • Broad knowledge of transportation and long-range planning to support project development and studies in a collaborative manner.
  • Strong knowledge and experience with key transportation engineering software Synchro, SimTraffic, and HCS. Experience with Sidra, Arcady, Vissim, Paramics, Aimsun and Visum, and familiarity with Alberta Transportation, City of Calgary and TAC geometric design standards, experience with AutoCAD / MicroStation, and / or ArcGIS, will be considered an asset.
  • Strong working knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite of programs including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
  • Research capabilities and analytical skills to support provincial, regional and urban transportation projects and initiatives. Including the ability to effectively present complex information to internal staff, key stakeholders, and management.
  • Strong organizational skills which will balance the management and delivery of multiple projects with ambitious timelines while also performing as a key resource for various needs and issues that may arise.
  • Ambitious goals to learn and assist a high-functioning team with a wide variety of engineering related tasks.
  • Strong attention to detail, and exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to travel for client meetings, to project sites, and to other CIMA offices for collaboration efforts (when COVID restrictions allow). Position will primarily work in a hybrid home/office setting but may require some field work.
