Transportation Planner

Position Summary

Reporting to the Manager of Traffic & Planning, the Transportation Planner is responsible for the preparation of traffic and planning reporting and generation of data driven insights through the processing, modelling, analysis, and interpretation of transportation, mobility, and spatial datasets.

Position Responsibilities

  • Serves as a specialist in transportation, mobility and spatial data reporting
  • Conducts research on traffic mobility trends and metrics with special focus in the Greater Toronto Region using state-of-the-art Location Based Services datasets including Inrix, Streelight Data and others.
  • Explores, analyses, and advises the team on emerging transportation trends and datasets
  • Prepare presentation material as required for all areas of responsibility
  • Provide support in the preparation and validation of the 407 ETR’s traffic reporting to the Grantor
  • Prepare detailed traffic reports and measure impacts affecting 407 ETR traffic and proactively and clearly communicates traffic updates to the Manager.
  • Assist in the preparation of the 407ETR Annual Highway Safety Review to support Highway Operations safety reporting, identify areas for improvement and meet CGLA requirements including delivery of annual Incident Management Report to the Grantor.
  • Review and assess traffic impact studies and developments affecting the 407ETR corridor and prepares reports with recommendations to the Manager.
  • Undertakes, coordinates and reviews studies, research projects and data analysis as required relating to transportation in the region.
  • Represent the department in various committees within the organization


  • University degree or College diploma in Civil Engineering, Urban Planning, Geography or equivalent
  • 1-3 years of related work experience
  • Knowledge of spatial data tools and techniques including GIS software (ArcGIS or QGIS)
  • Knowledge of dashboard development, interactive visualization, interactive mapping software
  • Experience with databases and data warehousing including organizing, compiling, manipulating, analyzing and summarizing large datasets using business intelligence software (Power BI, Tableau)
  • Solid knowledge of Microsoft Office, and transportation theory
  • Well-developed research and problem-solving skills
  • Strong communication skills and a strong work ethic
  • Highly developed presentation, communication and interpersonal skills
