Waterloo ION Rapid Transit Tour
April 18, 2018 @ 1:30 pm - 3:30 pm UTC-8
The CITE Southwestern Ontario Section has seized an opportunity to get an early peek at the Region of Waterloo’s ION Rapid Transit project! This is an exclusive opportunity offered by Keolis and Region of Waterloo staff.
The tour is free. Capacity is limited and priority will be given in order of response.
RSVP early to Doug MacRae at email@example.com or latest by Tuesday April 10th. Include any required accessibility accommodations.
Participants are required to have personal protective equipment comprising of a hard hat, safety glasses, reflective vest and safety boots. Long pants and long sleeves are also required.
Keolis, as part of the GrandLinq consortium, was selected by Region of Waterloo to operate and maintain the new light rail system. The new rapid transit corridor is already shaping the Region’s community for generations to come and Keolis is helping to implement the project vision.
The tour is planned to include the Operations, Maintenance and Storage Facility (OMSF), Central Control Facility, light rail vehicle and ION station. Tour content is subject to current Keolis operations.
The project’s Bombardier Flexity Freedom light rail vehicles are the first of their kind in North America. The barrier-free, fully accessible vehicles are 100% low-floor, making it easier for passengers to enter the vehicle, especially those with strollers and accessibility needs. The vehicles will carry up to 200 passengers comfortably, with 57 seats, plenty of standing room and designated bike and wheelchair areas. Keolis is currently undertaking vehicle testing.
Light Rail stations will feature ticket vending machines, bike racks and real-time digital displays. Custom elements such as landscaping and art will link the stations to the surrounding neighbourhoods.
