Our presenter this month is Morgan Vespa, Manager of the City of Winnipeg’s first Office of Public Engagement.
Morgan oversees an office of three Public Engagement Officers. The Office of Public Engagement team is involved in all civic projects where feedback from the public is gathered and considered, such as the Arlington Bridge, active transportation projects, and the Eastern Corridor Study. Morgan’s professional experience has focused on how public participation has the potential to strengthen communities and improve projects.
Morgan’s presentation is titled “How to design for communities: listen to them”. Morgan will discuss how technical teams and public engagement professionals can work together to design with the community’s needs and community context in mind, using multiple types of knowledge to produce the best design outcome. Using the current Osborne to Downtown Walk Bike Bridge and Connections project as an example, Morgan will present on how the City of Winnipeg’s office of public engagement is undertaking an interesting and meaningful engagement process and the importance of a coordinated team approach.
