ICBC Road Improvement Program: Cost-Sharing on Municipal Road Safety Projects
Content of Presentation: The ICBC Road Improvement Program is celebrating its 30th year of providing financial and technical assistance to projects that improve road safety. This presentation will provide a brief overview of the Road Improvement Program, and will discuss the types of projects funded by the Program, the types of funding available, the application process, and projects that are of particular interest to the Program. While the Road Improvement Program focuses on engineering approaches to road safety, ICBC also supports a wide range of educational initiatives on road safety that are of use to municipalities. The presentation will also include a discussion of these resources.
Peggy Gibbs is the ICBC Road Safety Engineer for Vancouver Island. In this role, she administers ICBC’s Road Improvement Program for Vancouver Island municipalities, which provides financial and technical assistance to promote road safety. Peggy brings 25 years of road safety experience in Canada and the US to her work with ICBC. Her presentation today centres on the ICBC Road Improvement Program, including the types of projects funded by the Program, the types of funding available, the application process, and projects that are of particular interest to the Program.
Also, CITE President, Julia Salvini will be giving a brief presentation on what’s new with the Canadian District of ITE
Julia Salvini is President of the Canadian Institute of Transportation Engineers. Based in Kitchener, Ontario, Julia runs her own consulting practice and works closely with municipalities and those involved in land development to create strong transportation policy supporting growing cities and to help ensure that new development is well integrated into the local transportation network. Julia is passionate about the role of transportation in city building and the importance of providing travel options. She especially loves her EV and in her spare time spends far more time standing around ski hills and hockey arenas than she would like to admit.
