ITE U of M Student Chapter Technical Workshop: Planning for Public Transit

Planning for Public Rapid Transit
The University of Manitoba’s ITE Student Chapter is excited to offer a technical workshop to interested professionals and students in the field of transportation planning and engineering. Registered guests will participate in a number of sessions over the course of a morning focused on the topic of “Planning for Public Transportation”. Lunch and refreshments will be provided to all registered guests.
This year, the student chapter is happy to host two speakers to share their experiences and insights in the development of public transportation projects.
Björn Rådström, P.Eng. Manager of Service Development, Winnipeg Transit
Acting as a service manager at Winnipeg Transit, Bjorn was a core member of the project team that oversaw the design and construction of Stage 1 of the Southwest Transitway and also was the project manager of the first phases of Stage 2. Bjorn is experienced in public consultation, P3 construction projects, and has served on committees with CITE as well as CUTA. In 2016, he was named to Mass Transit Magazine’s Top 40 Under 40.
Bob Hastings M.Arch, Architecture and Urban Design, Agency Architect, TriMet, Portland, Oregon
Serving as Portland, Oregon’s Trimet Agency Architect since 2000, Bob brings a vast amount of experience in regards to public transit planning and design. Community engagement, accessibility, and sustainability are core values of the TriMet agency where Bob most recently led the development of their new LRT Orange Line. Punctuating this new line, Bob led the innovative design of a park and ride station connecting the community of Milwaukie to downtown Portland. Bob also served as the managing architect for the Tilikum Crossing in Portland which is North America’s first major bridge to only accommodate public transit, cyclists, and pedestrians.
