The conversation on equity and race has come to the forefront for many communities across North America. Concerns about issues such as gentrification, affordable housing, and police enforcement have surfaced in many public projects. In response, cities are recognizing and acknowledging that systemic disparities exist and that it is time to provide focus and support for their elimination. Jennifer Toole, AICP, ASLA of Toole Design Group, a firm that specializes in active transportation, will talk about the importance of addressing equity in public projects and provide real-life examples of how this has been done successfully.

About the Speaker

Jennifer Toole, AICP, ASLA is the President and founder of Toole Design Group, a firm that specializes in active transportation, with 17 offices throughout North America and a staff of over 175 employees. The company recently opened offices in Edmonton and Toronto.  As a certified planner with a degree in Landscape Architecture, Jennifer’s experience includes hands-on project design as well as national research and planning initiatives. Jennifer was a co-author of the award-winning Boston Complete Streets Guidelines. Jennifer served three terms as the President of the Association of Pedestrian and Bicycle Professionals (APBP) and received one of the organization’s highest honors: the 2008 Professional of the Year Award.
