Innovation and the Urban Freight System

March 22, 2019 @ 11:00 am - 1:00 pm

What is urban freight infrastructure, how well does it perform, and how can it be adapted to better serve urban residents? In this talk, Dr. Anne Goodchild will give her perspective on the current and future challenges to delivering a safe, sustainable, and efficient urban freight system. She will describe not only the technical approach, but also the process for defining an arc of research that was needed to make progress in this new field. The urban freight system is delivered by both public and private entities. Dr. Goodchild will also touch on her approach to engaging public and private sector actors that has resulted in a novel and productive organizational approach to research.

Anne Goodchild is Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Washington. As Founding Director of the Supply Chain Transportation and Logistics Center and the Supply Chain Transportation and Logistics Online Master’s Program she leads the University of Washington’s academic and research efforts in the area of supply chain, logistics, and freight transportation.
