CITE-NCS Luncheon: Cross-Town Bikeways
September 21, 2016@11:30 am to 1:30 pm UTC-8
On Wednesday September 21st, we will be receiving a presentation by Zlatko Krstulic of the City of Ottawa on the subject of Cross-Town Bikeways.
Zlatko Krstulic, P.Eng.
Cross-Town Bikeways – Ottawa’s Minimum Grid
Since 2010, the City of Ottawa has made a major shift towards cycling-supportive policies- including a significant increase in direct and indirect capital investment related to cycling facilities. Key milestones since then include the opening of the City’s first protected bike lanes and major progress on a network of Cross-Town Bikeways.
Cross-Town Bikeways provide continuous cycling connectivity over long distances across the city- they may also be thought of as a ‘minimum grid’ . These facilities will provide a consistent level of comfort for cyclists over their entire length, and are the focus of current cycling planning and investment efforts.
The talk reviews progress towards the goals set in the 2013 Cycling plan, with particular emphasis on the transportation planning implications of Cross-Town Bikeways and the direction of future cycling facility design within a Complete Streets context.
