Topic: Hamilton Bike Share: Data, Culture Change and its Impact on Modal Shift
Hamilton’s bike share system turned 1-year-old on March 20th, 2016, and as one of the largest “Smart Bike” systems in North America, there is much interest in how it performed and how it differs from other “Smart Dock” systems. This presentation will delve into the details of Smart Bikes and the data that they can provide to operators and to cities. This rich data can help plan new infrastructure and identify gaps in existing infrastructure; ultimately resulting in a transportation system that provides better and safer choices to bridge the first/last mile to transit more effectively and to provide alternative on-demand modes altogether.
Speaker Bio: Peter Topalovic, M.Eng. Project Manager – Sustainable Mobility Programs
Peter is responsible for the design, implementation and management of the Hamilton Bike Share system. Peter and his team implemented a 750 bike, 115 station system; the largest next generation “smart bike” program in North America. Peter also oversees Hamilton’s Sustainable Mobility Programs including Smart Commute Hamilton which works with Hamilton’s largest employers to improve employee commutes and work environment via site design, incentive programs, monitoring and recognition and has developed effective partnerships with the community and employers while ensuring they are engaged in the City’s sustainable mobility initiatives such as car sharing, bike parking and bike valets, sustainable and healthy policies and guidelines for developers and complete and liveable streets.
If you know of others who might be interested in this informative presentation, please kindly forward it on to them.
