Become a Volunteer!

Volunteers are the foundation of any organization by serving in a variety of roles. Members that dedicate their time and expertise play a critical role in the development and maintenance of ITE’s programs and services. Volunteer opportunities are available to ALL members, including students.

Over those years, I met and worked with some incredibly dedicated and talented people who have made a profound difference in my life. So if any of you are considering a volunteer position … don’t hesitate. The benefits in terms of your personal growth and development are exceptional, and more importantly, the opportunity to make a significant contribution to your profession is almost unlimited.”
David B. Richardson, P.Eng. (F)
2006 Recipient of the H. Robert Burton Distinguished Service Award

What does volunteering do for you?
Volunteerism strengthens and stimulates both personal and professional growth. ITE volunteers increase their knowledge base while networking and forming close, meaningful friendships. Through technical participation volunteers receive personal credibility, which can be useful when negotiating with current and perspective employers. For example, volunteers who write publishable issue papers or journal articles have the added benefit of using the article as credible proof of his/her technical and professional knowledge.

What types of volunteer opportunities are there?
There are several ways for you to get involved as an ITE volunteer. The greatest rewards come from linking your personal strengths and interests with the ITE opportunities available. The possible opportunities listed in our Volunteer Form are not inclusive—we encourage you to find or create new ways to get involved.

Be a mentor
The future of the profession is in the hands of the students that are exploring a possible career in the transportation industry. It is imperative that CITE members take the time to mentor these students to increase their knowledge, abilities, professional contacts and relationships.
