Sections
Vancouver Island Section
The Vancouver Island Section includes Vancouver Island, and the islands between Vancouver Island and the Mainland. ITE Members residing in the Vancouver Island Section area are automatically members of the Section. Other practitioners in fields of interest can apply for Section Membership including Traffic and Transportation Engineers, Technologists and Planners, Land Use Planners, Architects, Government Staff, members of the Development Community and other individuals who have an interest in Transportation. The Institute's activities encompass all modes of transportation.
Section programs include technical and related presentations at lunch or dinner meetings, a Section Newsletter, professional development seminars, other local meetings, and forums for the exchange of opinion, ideas, techniques, and research.
The Vancouver Island Section also holds occasional meetings in Nanaimo and participates in an annual "Quad Conference" with the Greater Vancouver, Washington State and Oregon Sections.
Participants at our meetings include Municipal, Regional District, and Provincial Government Planning and Engineering staff, Consultants, Architects, BC Transit and BC Ferry Corp. Staff, equipment suppliers, and others interested or concerned about our field of interest. We encourage joint meetings with other organizations such as the Engineering Institute of Canada, Association of Professional Engineers and Geophysicists of BC, and the Canadian Institute of Planners.
Interesting Trivia
The Vancouver Island Section was the first in Canada. Or more specifically, it was established as a Chapter (the first one) of the National CITE District before regional Districts were established.
