John Vardon Memorial Transportation Scholarship

John Vardon
Biography

John L. Vardon was Director of the Transportation Division of the Metropolitan Toronto Planning Board when he died after a brief illness in 1972. Mr. Vardon held a B.Sc. Degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Toronto, and a Masters degree in Civil Engineering from Queen’s University.

Prior to joining the Metro Planning Board, Mr. Vardon worked for the Ontario Department of Highways and participated in the joint highway research program at Queen’s University. John Vardon was well liked and respected, and his friends set up the Vardon Scholarship shortly after his death.

To be eligible for the annual $2,000 award, candidates must be registered as full time students in a transportation master’s-level program at a Canadian university. The scholarship is open to Canadian citizens and landed immigrants. Recipients of the John Vardon scholarship also receive up to $500 to attend the District conference.

The University of Waterloo generously administers the fund, and issues charitable tax receipts to donors.

Application Deadline: April 1, 2010
