About Saskatchewan

Saskatchewan or the “Land of Living Skies” is situated in the heart of North America. The word Saskatchewan originates from the Plains Indian word, “kisiskatchewan”, which means “the river that flows swiftly.”

With approximately 651,900 square kilometers (more than a quarter million square miles) in size, the Saskatchewan terrain varies with one half of the province covered by forest, one-third by farmland and one-eighth by fresh water. Saskatchewan also has the distinction of having more road surface than any other province in Canada, with a total of 150,000 miles (250,000 km.) Saskatchewan’s weather ranges from mild to wild with winter Chinooks, to autumn Indian summers, to summer thunderstorms and everything else in between. Although the middle of winter may bring arctic-type temperatures to the province, the sun is rarely gone from the Saskatchewan sky. As a matter of fact, Saskatchewan is home to Canada’s sunshine capital: Estevan! An endless horizon and array of activities greet you when arriving in Saskatchewan. Cultural events, festivals, museums, galleries, parks and endless recreational opportunities dot the provincial landscape throughout the year. For more information please visit Tourism Saskatchewan.
