Professional Experience

I am a professional engineer registered in Manitoba and Alberta, and Associate Professor in Civil Engineering at the University of Manitoba. I am also Principal of Montufar & Associates, a transportation consulting firm specializing in road safety and freight transportation. I have done extensive work in the U.S. and Canada on projects dealing with road safety, freight transportation, the application of advanced technologies to commercial vehicle operations, truck size and weight policy, goods movement in urban areas, traffic information systems, and automation of data collection systems. I have worked for Battelle Memorial Institute in Columbus, Ohio; Texas Transportation Institute in College Station, Texas; and the University of Michigan Transportation Research Institute in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

In 2004, I received the Canadian Council of Professional Engineers (CCPE) Young Engineer Achievement Award for my contributions to the profession. This is the highest honour that the profession can bestow on any one of its members.

Service to CITE

I have contributed to the growth of CITE since I became a member in 1995 through my involvement with the Manitoba Section Executive over a period of eight years as Treasurer, Secretary, Vice-President, and President. I am the founder and advisor of the University of Manitoba ITE Student Chapter.
I was also a member of the Local Arrangements Committee for the CITE conference held in Winnipeg in 2003, and was the Chair of the Local Arrangements Committee for the Canadian Multidisciplinary Road Safety Conference held in Winnipeg in 2006, and co-sponsored by the Manitoba Section of CITE and the University of Manitoba ITE Student Chapter.

Other Professional Service

In addition to my extensive involvement with CITE, I also serve on the Pedestrian Committee and the Truck Size and Weight Committee of the U.S. Transportation Research Board (TRB). I am a member of the Road Safety Standing Committee with TAC, and a former Board Member of the Canadian Association of Road Safety Professionals. I am actively involved with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Manitoba, and currently serve as one of its Councillors.
