Current Executive

Peter A. Truch, P.Eng., PTOE, MITE

After serving as Secretary-Treasurer for the past two years, I am enthusiastic about the opportunity to continue service to CITE as your elected Vice President.

One benefit to starting at the beginning and working up through the ranks of the executive is that it provides intricate knowledge of the structure, future opportunities, and unique challenges faced by a non-profit organization. My work as Secretary-Treasurer provided an intimate understanding of CITE’s financial situation—knowledge which is crucial to managing member programs and technical projects performed by the Technical Liaison Committee, overseeing Student Member investments and initiatives, and offering insight into where strategic efforts are best placed. I have the working knowledge, time and experience vital to continuing my executive role as Vice President, including furthering several technical projects, encouraging new projects, increasing student involvement within CITE and ITE, and continuing to evolve financial processes already underway.

CITE SERVICE BIOGRAPHY

As one of the founding members for the Southern Alberta ITE Toastmasters Section in 2003, I spent several years on the executive before moving into the position of President for the Southern Alberta ITE Toastmasters Club in 2008. As a member of the Banff 2006 Local Organizing Committee I founded the now popular scholarship-fundraising East-West street hockey game.

During my current CITE term I worked diligently to bring financial stability to the organization. While working on the 2009 financial statements I identified several significant inconsistencies in past financial statements, and my recommendation to launch a financial review committee was endorsed by the Board of Direction in August 2010. I continue to work closely with that committee to ensure that CITE’s past financial statements are corrected and properly reported, and have also established several processes to eliminate inconsistencies from reoccurring.

If the membership elects me as Vice President, I offer my commitment to complete the financial statement for the full 2011 year rather than passing responsibility to the new Secretary-Treasurer mid-stream, and will further commit mentorship to the incoming Secretary-Treasurer regarding the newly established policies and procedures to ensure that instituted efficiencies are achieved.

PERSONAL BIOGRAPHY

Outside of ITE, I volunteer in my community and cheer on the Calgary Flames with fervour, and enjoy skiing, snowshoeing and curling twice a week. In addition to English, I am fluent in German and French, and am conversant in Spanish.

Married to Katrina, we welcomed our first-born son, Kai, the day after the 2010 Annual Conference in Vancouver. We enjoy spending our family time together in the great outdoors.
