HOW TO PLAY

As a member of CITE, you will receive a monthly email with a SurveyMonkey hyperlink – clicking on this link will direct you to a set of 8-10 trivia questions. At the start of the survey, you will be asked to provide your name and Section or Student Chapter affiliation. Next you will be guided through each question. Upon completing the survey, you will be shown a summary of the responses to-date provided by the CITE community.
A total of seven (7) sets of trivia questions will be emailed on the second Tuesday of every month, beginning in October and ending in April. Each survey will be open until the end of the current month, and you are only allowed to complete one survey per month. Once the monthly survey closes, it will no longer be interactively available for the remainder of the contest. Collaboration with colleagues is allowed and encouraged.

SCORING

One point will be awarded for each correctly answered question. There are no penalties for incorrect answers, and unanswered questions will receive zero points.

Monthly Individual Scores:
At the end of each month individual scores will be tallied, and the highest scoring individual for that month will receive a Monthly Individual Prize (described in the Prizes section). In the event of a tie, the tie-breaking process will be performed as described in the Tie-breaking Process section.

Overall Individual Scores:
In March 2012, individual scores will be tallied for each of the five surveys completed between October and February, inclusive. The individual with the highest overall score will be announced on March 30 and will receive the Individual Grand Prize (described in the Prizes section).  Please refer to the Tie-breaking Process section for more information.

Overall Team Scores:
In May 2012, scores will be aggregated for each Section and Student Chapter for all seven surveys. Individual scores from each Section/Chapter member will be summed and the team with the highest score at the end of the contest will win the Team Grand Prize (described in the Prizes section). To ensure fairness across Sections/Chapters of different sizes, team scores will be converted into a percentage and the highest percentage will win. In the event of a tie, the tie-breaking process will be performed as described. A minimum of 10 responses per month from individuals within the Section/Chapter are required to be eligible for scoring points. The winning team will be announced during the Awards Luncheon at the Winnipeg2012 conference.

Tie-breaking Process:

To settle ties a random draw will be conducted where the names of the tied individuals/teams will be placed in an official Winnipeg Jets hat and the winner will be drawn. Although all individuals and teams should consider themselves winners by having the privilege of being associated with the Winnipeg Jets!

PRIZES

  • Monthly Individual Prize: a $25 gift certificate for various goods and services (e.g., iTunes, gift cards for restaurants, etc.).
  • Overall Individual Prize: one free full registration to the Winnipeg2012 conference.
  • Overall Team Prize: $500 cash prize for your Section or Student Chapter.

EXAMPLE OF SCORING

Overall Individual Scoring

Consider the following three participants – Bob, Suzie and Wendy – with the following monthly results. The overall winner would be Wendy because she had the highest overall score of 56 out of 70, even though Bob averaged 100% on surveys they completed and Suzie completed each survey.

Trivia Table Person

Overall Team Scoring

Consider the following three teams – Timbuktu, Nowhereville and Imaginaryplace – with the following monthly results. The score varies for each team depending on the Section/Chapter size and number of individual responses. For example, in October, 100 individuals from Timbuktu completed the 10-question survey, for a possible score of 1,000 points, but only 10 individuals from Nowhereville completed the survey, for a possible score of 100 points. In November, 120 Timbuktu members completed the survey, for a possible score of 1200 points, and so on. The number of points is summed for each team. Therefore, in October, Timbuktu had 890 correct answers as a team.
In this example, Imaginaryplace would be the winner with 3650 correct answers out of 4030 questions answered for a score of 91%. Even though Timbuktu answered more questions (7130) and had more correct answers (6030), their overall score was 85%.
