InterCalc is Traffic Engineering software developed by BA Consulting
Group Ltd. in association with ITE District 7.
The software provides a comprehensive and flexible evaluation of both
Signalized and Unsignalized Intersections.
|
SIGNALIZED INTERSECTION ANALYSIS |
Consistent with the updated
Capacity Guide for Signalized Intersections (2006 Edition), published by
ITE District 7. The software is being released by
the Institute of
Transportation Engineers, District 7 (CITE) as the official software of
the updated guide.
Signalized intersection
analyses directly replicate the procedures in the ITE District 7
Capacity Guide for Signalized Intersections manual.
Key features include the
following:
·
Saturation
Flow Adjustments:
Detailed calculation of adjustments factors for saturation flow rates
have been implemented as defined in the guide.
·
Worked
Examples:
Worked examples in the guide will be replicated in the software to
clearly illustrate analysis procedures.
·
Automatic Signal Phase Classification:
The program will identify any problems that may exist as a result of
conflicting movements in the defined combination.
·
Pedestrian
Crossing Requirements: Based on input crossing distances, the program will calculate minimum
pedestrian crossing requirements and flag cases where they are not met.
·
Advance Phase Lost Time Accounting:
Automatic adjustment of lost time and effective green time is performed
on a lane by lane, phase by phase basis, taking into account the
differing characteristics of left and through lane operations.
·
Demand Volume Balancing:
Demand volumes are automatically balanced across any combination of
exclusive and shared lanes, and through any phasing pattern, on each
approach of the intersection. As a result, the user is not required to
input any assumptions with respect to proportions of 'movements' in
shared lanes.
|
UNSIGNALIZED TWO-WAY AND ALL-WAY INTERSECTION ANALYSIS |
Consistent with the
methodologies set out in the US Highway Capacity Manual (2000).
Key features include the following:
·
Concise
Reporting:
Output
results are formatted in a similar manner to those for signalized
intersections. Report-ready printouts are easy to understand and
adaptable for insertion into a master document.
·
Enhanced
Lane Configurations: Intersection approach geometry supports evaluation of exclusive left
turn lanes in addition to combinations of up to two through lanes.
|
ADDITIONAL CAPABILITIES: FLEXIBLE and CONVENIENT |
The integrated software
package contains additional features to support complex and multiple
analysis scenarios. These include the following:
·
Variable
Intersection Control:
Intersection performance results can be readily compared under a range
of unsignalized and signalized control.
·
Traffic
Volume Calculator: Traffic volumes and growth factors can be entered and stored as layers,
which can then be manipulated and combined arithmetically to simplify
the process of managing multiple traffic analysis scenarios.
·
Project
Based Scenario Management: Any number of intersections, and any number of analysis scenarios for
each intersection can be easily created, analyzed, and saved in a single
project file.
·
Easy to
Read Reports:
Comprehensive or single page summary reports are available, for all
three intersection types.
|
UNDER DEVELOPMENT: MORE FEATURES |
The software is currently
being enhanced to incorporate additional features. Based on feedback
from users, one key objective is to provide Synchro file import
and export capabilities.
