Canadian Capacity Guide for Signalized Intersections

This updated document to the 1984 edition was developed by the CITE Committee on the Development of the Canadian Urban Transportation Capacity Guide. It is a significantly expanded and updated version of the First Edition, and includes techniques that allow the user to analyze different situations and intersection configurations. The Guide helps the user to understand the inter-relationships between a signalized intersection and the various modes of transportation. Canadian information and experience on signal performance is consolidated, reflecting multiple Canadian specifics, while defining a common base for regional differences.

The main focus of the Guide is on the movement of traffic

flow units (cars, trucks, transit vehicles, cycles, pedestrians) at signalized intersections, and uses both analytical and evaluation methods to determine an effective allocation of time and space to conflicting traffic streams. A variety of different solutions can be assessed using the performance measures from the Guide. The user is provided with a comprehensive account of intersection operation under different conditions.
